Additives for Waterborne Coatings: Thickeners, Defoamers & Wetting Agents

Additives for Waterborne Coatings: Thickeners, Defoamers & Wetting Agents

Additives are 3% of your formulation cost and 90% of your troubleshooting time. Cratering, foam marks, poor color acceptance, sagging — each usually traces back to one additive choice. Xiangrun supplies the full additive toolbox for waterborne systems: imported originals and our own equivalents, with dosage guidance for your specific system.

If you tell us the system (gloss level, PVC, application method) we will recommend a combination rather than a single product — additives interact, and we test them together.

Why Formulators Buy From Xiangrun

  • Originals and equivalents under one roof: we distribute imported grades from ADEKA, Asahi Kasei, Clariant, Wacker, Croda, Evonik and PUCORE — and manufacture our own X-series / L-series equivalents when you need the same performance at a better cost.
  • Free samples, freight collect: tell us your system and benchmark — the sample is free, shipped collect on your DHL/FedEx account, and most reach Europe within a week.
  • Technical answers, not sales talk: our lab replies with starting-point dosages and compatibility notes for your specific formulation.
  • Consistent supply: batch-to-batch COA, flexible MOQ from one drum, and export documentation handled for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between a mineral-oil and silicone defoamer?

By gloss and recoatability: mineral-oil types are economical for matt and semi-gloss; silicone types like SE-47 give stronger knockdown in high-gloss and spray systems but must be dosed carefully to avoid craters. We recommend based on your gloss target and send both for A/B testing.

Can your thickeners replace the ones we import at lower cost?

Often. SN-612NC and UH-752 are direct working equivalents to common Japanese and European PU thickeners. Send your current grade and dosage – we will propose the swap and free samples to verify rheology curves.

What dosage should we start with?

Every sample shipment includes a starting-point dosage sheet for your system type. Typical ranges: PU thickener 0.3-1.5%, defoamer 0.1-0.5%, wetting agent 0.2-0.8% on total formulation.

Do you supply small quantities for lab work?

Yes – free lab samples first, then commercial supply from single-drum quantities, so your pilot line can validate before scaling.
